Elon Musk threatens to disobey the Brazilian Supreme court which intends to ban certain accounts on the social Media platform ‘X’ challenging it to be an aggressive censorship. The Attorney General Jorge Messias mentioned that it is urgent to regulate social media network that violates the rule of law and that which fails to comply court orders.
The court has ordered an investigation against Musk and mentioned that Musk’s defiance as ‘flagrant obstruction of justice’. The toss -up is the latest clash around the world and Elon Musk. The free speech absolutist has relaxed the Twitter turned ‘X’ content moderation policies and reinstated a number of previously blocked accounts after its acquisition of the company. The court has ordered those accounts to be blocked as part of its ongoing investigation into ‘digital militas’ for spreading misinformation and incitement of crimes under the government of the former President Jair Bolsonaro.
X has faced criticism forced censorship demands from the governments such as in Turkey where some X accounts were blocked ahead of the elections. The company has also fined for non- compliance with Australia’s e-safety regulations. It is facing problem in EU under the new Digital Services act, which has laws holding technology companies accountable for terrorism incite, hate speech, child abuse and exploitation and such harmful contents in their platforms. In India too, ‘X’ accounts and posts were removed, at the behest of India’s government that were linked to ongoing farmers’ protests.
