The “X Corp”. is being challenged in a legal law suit in a trademark infringement case. The plaintiff, is an ad agency,“X Social Media”, focused on mass-tort litigation. The lawsuit was that the "X Social Media" set up since 2016 and owns a federal trademark has invested millions and more in advertising to reach potential clients. The Twitter's rebrand to ‘X’ has created confusion in its customers in the social media platforms, with its identical Logo ‘X’ causing a huge loss in its revenue.
Therefore, the “X Social Media seeks an order to prevent the X Corp. from continuing to use X as its brand, in addition to monetary compensation.
When Elon Musk rebranded Twitter to X this summer, there were concerns that the new company could face trademark lawsuits as there were nearly 900 active U.S. trademark registrations that cover the letter and branding “X” across various industries.
The complaint, which has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
But apparently, it cogitates, the X Social Media’s “X” looks nothing like Musk’s “X” but an image that is actually a figure of a person where the “X” has distinctive arms and legs holding a pair of scales.
X Social Media was founded in 2015 by Jacob and Roseanna Malherbe. They have alleged Twitter’s new name, X, infringes the agency’s trade mark which also incorporates the letter ‘X’ and the platform’s recent rebranding from Twitter to X is likely to cause confusion among consumers.
